They have been studying about the circus and so today they were allowed to dress up like clowns. Aiden asked me if I could make him a clown outfit. (What, me sew something fun?..uh, ya I think I can do that.) Then, he asked if I could paint his face like a clown. (Um, I was a drama major in college and especially loved doing stage makeup...ya, I think I can do that too.)</span></span><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6EieRRlCbbIRaID71z7iaH6I91Sly3H2j1-xmUp2avYzsC84JV6FbkWXVDlsaNQsqb4GoHEeZEhPesQJqfWSvYNQP4cKe4eGz3DRoCBTgaCKU2cpzyi32nvvsGHSlszsY7dfNEgfG2wk/s1600-h/clown+002.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6EieRRlCbbIRaID71z7iaH6I91Sly3H2j1-xmUp2avYzsC84JV6FbkWXVDlsaNQsqb4GoHEeZEhPesQJqfWSvYNQP4cKe4eGz3DRoCBTgaCKU2cpzyi32nvvsGHSlszsY7dfNEgfG2wk/s400/clown+002.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5442659465232442242" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center; font-family: arial;"><span style="font-size:130%;">I'm a little out of practice, but I love doing makeup! I made two and sewed them together so that it would be lined. Over Christmas I came to the realization that I just cannot do it all. I try to be super mom, super wife, super crafter, super friend and in the meantime I'm becomming super tired and super overwhelmed. I had to make the decision to cut some things out and my blogs were one of those things. Oh, I'll post every now and then. Not only do they taste great, but they are so good for us because they've not been <a href="http://www.organicconsumers.org/irradlink.cfm">irradiated</a>. I love seeing how different they are as well (as opposed to the perfect consistency of store-bought eggs.) A few months ago I posted this picture. Our eggs are always different sizes. It made sense when I saw an egg scale at an estate sale that showed if the egg was small, medium, large or x-large. I should have bought it!<br /></span></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwT2VPjVIsHwqpdWfN9fOeBVJrEAi8I2iSOt02LLCkozoHCLECpzU1wYq1gRTNHUfNfiG3caNfTUlskmP_z-4szNCpRP3kDGsvtr1ho1inKx01xh8Ei_Zipt2adUMZWR_jP3HQtEfmvUEp/s1600-h/ring+tutorial+001.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwT2VPjVIsHwqpdWfN9fOeBVJrEAi8I2iSOt02LLCkozoHCLECpzU1wYq1gRTNHUfNfiG3caNfTUlskmP_z-4szNCpRP3kDGsvtr1ho1inKx01xh8Ei_Zipt2adUMZWR_jP3HQtEfmvUEp/s320/ring+tutorial+001.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345368910335711442" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center; font-family: arial;"><span style="font-size:130%;">Here's the latest fun egg find - a double yolk. The booties should fit 6-12months and the slippers fit up to size 8. The mommy warming slippers are something new I'm making. The bottom of the slippers have pockets full of rice. So, just pop these babies in the micro and you've got some soft warming slippers.<br /></span><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXstTQXYY7jxSo2Gd_kRBGfSazepO5x6wfS_snGxSOMoL0Cx-L2KNlnDrKxFrThgSOJzWcYYTTExS7PiNHzM8GimCGAX77GG1Of5NBYXBsDt_K4auSM-pvI8iwsjg8LPezkrB_fR7bYb4/s1600-h/giveaway+002.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXstTQXYY7jxSo2Gd_kRBGfSazepO5x6wfS_snGxSOMoL0Cx-L2KNlnDrKxFrThgSOJzWcYYTTExS7PiNHzM8GimCGAX77GG1Of5NBYXBsDt_K4auSM-pvI8iwsjg8LPezkrB_fR7bYb4/s400/giveaway+002.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5410500152444206546" border="0" /></a><span style="font-size:130%;">It's kind of hard to see, but here's a picture of the warming pockets. If you're not the lucky winner, then make sure to come back after the contest when I hope to have up a tutorial for the warming slippers. I'll also be throwing in a few random sewing supplies...maybe some buttons or fat eighths. I haven't decided yet!<br /><br />So, here's the yada yada:<br />1. Leave a comment telling me the kinds of things you enjoy seeing on the sewing blogs you visit or what you would do with the slippers if you won.<br />2. Facebook, blog or twitter about my giveaway and then come back and leave another comment telling me that you did so.<br /><br />I would love for you to bookmark or follow me, but I won't make you do so in order to enter. :-)<br /><br />This gives you up to TWO entries. Comments are open through December 6th and the winner will be chosen with a random number generator. Your item will be shipped no later than December 12th and I can't mail internationally (sorry). I will also tag your items with one of my boutique tags so that you can give them as a gift if you wish. Please make sure that you leave your email address in your comment or make sure that the comment links back to your blog. If I don't hear from you by the 12th then I will choose another winner.<br /><br />One last thing is that the Mommy Warming Slippers pictured may not actually be the ones you receive, but they will be equally as cute! So, enter your little heart out and make sure to head back over to <a href="http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=3314">Sew Mama Sew</a> to enter some other great giveaways!<br /></span><br /><br /><br /></div></span></span></div>Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10593019124880978286noreply@blogger.com119tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8983350611050105859.post-42495788730233693702009-11-26T08:52:00.000-08:002009-11-26T09:03:17.918-08:00Isaac's birthday<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-family: arial;">My little guy turned one on November 5th. And what a wonderful idea for an ironing pad that you can easily use right where you are sewing. There's no need to break out the ironing board just for little jobs. It's especially wonderful if your sewing space is at your dining table (like mine is).<br />My ironing pad turned out a little bit different. The silver material came already padded and quilted to the padding so I didn't add any more padding. I also affixed the ribbon to the end of the pad so that I could roll it up yoga mat fashion if I wanted to.<br /><br /></span></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd_AbVVqQXyOA2_MVPKbmUcalUY1HDjLiF8lHyoX0vc4VQ0PJBp4wsKHzjfDdPRXkBZXlvU2QrCUfTtriTgLp_h1tCLt6IHCDHVOxBDLygvitGROPfGwGScy0nkTC26yHtqrGrCK6F8wU/s1600-h/100_0828.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd_AbVVqQXyOA2_MVPKbmUcalUY1HDjLiF8lHyoX0vc4VQ0PJBp4wsKHzjfDdPRXkBZXlvU2QrCUfTtriTgLp_h1tCLt6IHCDHVOxBDLygvitGROPfGwGScy0nkTC26yHtqrGrCK6F8wU/s400/100_0828.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396387153780253890" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-family:arial;"><br />The fabric on the outside is Amy Butler's Daisy Chain that I purchased while at <a href="http://maryjos.com/">Mary Jo's</a> in Gastonia, NC.<br /><br /></span></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRAhQ13BiDPu8kpSb1KRwJ6hv6VX3sgkd1gKovahml7-4KBZkryNMhpTOWmnIxCi_LN65h5IA-NmP0STTpRio2O_KVncdbkmCjRw_Xv12rYggv48f0t3BUYeM4fO11s8evj7uFF4xD7B4/s1600-h/100_0829.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRAhQ13BiDPu8kpSb1KRwJ6hv6VX3sgkd1gKovahml7-4KBZkryNMhpTOWmnIxCi_LN65h5IA-NmP0STTpRio2O_KVncdbkmCjRw_Xv12rYggv48f0t3BUYeM4fO11s8evj7uFF4xD7B4/s400/100_0829.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5396387158610140482" border="0" /></a>Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10593019124880978286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8983350611050105859.post-79065951215030287092009-10-24T20:47:00.000-07:002009-10-24T21:28:09.580-07:00Mary Jo's - Fabric Mecca<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size:100%;"><span style="font-family:arial;"><span style="font-size:130%;">I don't know <a href="http://maryjos.com/">Mary Jo</a>, but I love her. I have to be honest, sometimes I just throw them away in an effort to keep down the clutter. However, there are lots of things I can use them for. Check out these great ideas <a href="http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=1346">here</a> and <a href="http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=1586">here</a>.</span> <span style="font-family:arial;">Sew Mama Sew is having their <a href="http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=966">scrap buster month</a> and here's my idea. You know those cute little gift bags they pack your purchases in at the store? I've always tried to come up with a way to reuse them, but I don't want to give a gift in a bag that says "Whole Foods" or "Victoria Secret" (unless of course the gift came from those stores). So, let's cover them with scraps of fabric! This is quite a special little bag. I think I'll give it to my Mama with her birthday present tucked neatly inside.<br /><br />First, fold your bag flat and measure the width. Add an inch to this measurement for the seam allowance. Then fold it again flat lengthwise and measure. Double this measurement and add an inch. When I did this I came up with 13 1/2" by 25 1/2".<br /><br />Next, you want to combine lots of your scraps in order to make this size of piece. You can make even squares, or I love <a href="http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=1181">the method used here</a>. I also cut out some flowers and sewed them on since it looked like there was grass growing at the bottom.<br /><br /></span></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTwM5YfENEqiSIxddiNQBwepZexwO48AYmgB_LtDjFbXVysFFUhJzuE57x8Q9E8vjBGANpeqNlZsnUWVxlkriJ7DF1WZxPneRJafnyxqqN5l131fXl1cCsKU9-ZbWUgtkxFy3nDw8MLso/s1600-h/sew+003.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTwM5YfENEqiSIxddiNQBwepZexwO48AYmgB_LtDjFbXVysFFUhJzuE57x8Q9E8vjBGANpeqNlZsnUWVxlkriJ7DF1WZxPneRJafnyxqqN5l131fXl1cCsKU9-ZbWUgtkxFy3nDw8MLso/s400/sew+003.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5393770960330361538" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-family:arial;">When all is pieced together, fold your fabric in half lengthwise and make sure that the sides are nice and straight.<br /><br /></span></span><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwjJfzC4eD9-C32cvV-ftD876ZCJU-0e55HIJ7z8kgrJ_JI_u_PELFyyeNwl2TDrofTBl9bLmYKElnThYywbrJeUjsW35abky7uMu1uS67HvWeSIv0n8oS69zYS9QZgxvXcx-7InWm_Yk/s1600-h/sew+004.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwjJfzC4eD9-C32cvV-ftD876ZCJU-0e55HIJ7z8kgrJ_JI_u_PELFyyeNwl2TDrofTBl9bLmYKElnThYywbrJeUjsW35abky7uMu1uS67HvWeSIv0n8oS69zYS9QZgxvXcx-7InWm_Yk/s400/sew+004.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5393770963914317954" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-size:130%;"><span style="font-family:arial;">Using a 1/2" seam, sew down each side. One is that I can make things much cheaper than I can buy them. I think it's a pretty well-known fact that I'm <s>a cheapskate</s> thrifty. And the second is that I can make something exactly the way I want it. There's a lot of things that drive me crazy about store-bought clothes. I just like it done well.<br /><br />So, when <a href="http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/">Sew Mama Sew</a> decided to do a pajama sew-along this month I was ready. Not only did I want to make pajama pants for all my boys, but I had already bought the fabric. I was at Goodwill the other day and found the cutest striped fitted sheet...yes, a sheet. It was in great shape (actually it looked like it had never been used). So, I used the fabric for my boys pants and the elastic for the waistband. I estimate that I made these four pairs of pajama pants for about $3.50 (that would be $2.50 for the sheet and $.99 for the pattern - on sale at the fabric store). I also bought an adorable vintage sheet to make pants for me, but I didn't get those done. Something about having 3 boys and being sick for the last two weeks factored into that.<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">So, here's the sheet.<br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEnJey0BGMv_OP4g0BB84-JvOeBWrEZVqEtmjoV2_dWHtw0ht6JjYG-O9U9pJbYn3dE6aFjPXyea8vmM46AQwkJBwwNbvD7L8KqCij7Cmip7MNNF7WasJS4UAhhPUiSR4nhSweDknhkDvL/s1600-h/2009_0927+033.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEnJey0BGMv_OP4g0BB84-JvOeBWrEZVqEtmjoV2_dWHtw0ht6JjYG-O9U9pJbYn3dE6aFjPXyea8vmM46AQwkJBwwNbvD7L8KqCij7Cmip7MNNF7WasJS4UAhhPUiSR4nhSweDknhkDvL/s400/2009_0927+033.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387407548306659730" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Here's the pattern.<br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT2pz5dnGRIJNaCelv0XD7SfXG6gIk5QLLo1qpgfqsWZueSxnwpzSvTyYjxa7JwXMHjbEXVeZg3TuGzb_nK674qbomXgZ35KZOYILOh9UMoIomUBJCRi0hkZ-KXnAeENTqnJtfcAhDU7jN/s1600-h/pajama+003.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT2pz5dnGRIJNaCelv0XD7SfXG6gIk5QLLo1qpgfqsWZueSxnwpzSvTyYjxa7JwXMHjbEXVeZg3TuGzb_nK674qbomXgZ35KZOYILOh9UMoIomUBJCRi0hkZ-KXnAeENTqnJtfcAhDU7jN/s400/pajama+003.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387407864188174914" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;">And here's the end product.<br /></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKDcT-RAr_hS6bmvZ5udKiOetArm7cMfNDl2ZA2HJDj5syxsOOsdjjYww3yhlAZX5kW6SoVOakv860gXDQCHuNPxUjQo74ApPBadQt1VzSfJMoVT4zsTWPZgbj94HdOEye2i97fCTlcNvu/s1600-h/pajama+002.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKDcT-RAr_hS6bmvZ5udKiOetArm7cMfNDl2ZA2HJDj5syxsOOsdjjYww3yhlAZX5kW6SoVOakv860gXDQCHuNPxUjQo74ApPBadQt1VzSfJMoVT4zsTWPZgbj94HdOEye2i97fCTlcNvu/s400/pajama+002.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387408554351559522" border="0" /></a>Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10593019124880978286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8983350611050105859.post-64041869588028171422009-07-05T07:44:00.000-07:002009-10-07T07:44:44.024-07:00July 4th boys<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSxyUY1eOffhgp32heVq7g-IaPhUO7a1D9V2CH2Kjl1EmD6AMaEW042BCUp5rkUSq1IDyWwMQTFyjd3oHsCxLSCJkn2A37q_OB6nHL8BrCoNd8MPy9Cn-TvutKD9t9sRZNCLM8FocQaTuM/s1600-h/7.4.09+002.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSxyUY1eOffhgp32heVq7g-IaPhUO7a1D9V2CH2Kjl1EmD6AMaEW042BCUp5rkUSq1IDyWwMQTFyjd3oHsCxLSCJkn2A37q_OB6nHL8BrCoNd8MPy9Cn-TvutKD9t9sRZNCLM8FocQaTuM/s400/7.4.09+002.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5355179128101552562" border="0" /></a>I love this picture. How cool is that? You can see how frugal she was. Some of the buttons still have thread on them. I'm sure she cut buttons off a shirt before throwing the shirt into the rag bin. I've intended to do something with them, but couldn't decide what. I'll probably end up making a bracelet too. For now, here's a cute little way to wear vintage buttons and remember Grammy at the same time.<br /><br />Buy some ring findings. I found mine on ebay and paid about $1 per ring. Use a heavy duty thread such as cross stitch or quilting thread. Sew in and out of the holes several times to secure your thread. I like to do it this way to avoid using glue. Sew your buttons on just like you would if you were sewing them onto a shirt. I like to layer different colors, but any more than three layers starts looking funny.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSzX9ERhJdcdjlAMSaAJnzedm-KBzUJOvJwSKgfT1_ob_v_zp9qkBWBqmFAYk7sRo4CucuTVvn5rWwKYlY6rj5tGf91Vhd7z_AGpPI1Sm3Z3XfMAcKYgYQc4x6g8gTZNoxSWmg6asTLYiV/s1600-h/ring+tutorial+004.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSzX9ERhJdcdjlAMSaAJnzedm-KBzUJOvJwSKgfT1_ob_v_zp9qkBWBqmFAYk7sRo4CucuTVvn5rWwKYlY6rj5tGf91Vhd7z_AGpPI1Sm3Z3XfMAcKYgYQc4x6g8gTZNoxSWmg6asTLYiV/s200/ring+tutorial+004.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345362905724860130" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwkslrzRstfWsKqZjkJ5BgQ-Gd4OHgYeIvWGrQONRtCy8c6uEfWv_jmcRiUVD3QzTQrgtASe9j3MQlY0S2LWtBA1rLwUSi-Q-DnpVwgHj-5b7adQDjd9twoKN_aX56cKalJ_C1Kbe-KYgE/s1600-h/ring+tutorial+005.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwkslrzRstfWsKqZjkJ5BgQ-Gd4OHgYeIvWGrQONRtCy8c6uEfWv_jmcRiUVD3QzTQrgtASe9j3MQlY0S2LWtBA1rLwUSi-Q-DnpVwgHj-5b7adQDjd9twoKN_aX56cKalJ_C1Kbe-KYgE/s200/ring+tutorial+005.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345362906402420162" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihM2P_IY5ZvkgkHWu18IKlbELGtcgL7_7n3-icaC9mcYQKfNRjda325xQcZVXiY-kyRNgE4MAMM5nzAoLQjTFD6T3-5nw9lfWkgRYeUbPG64kl07ea6Af2WMW0pWJVx5jb11MqVSYvmfyD/s1600-h/ring+tutorial+008.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 0pt 10px 10px; float: right; cursor: pointer; width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihM2P_IY5ZvkgkHWu18IKlbELGtcgL7_7n3-icaC9mcYQKfNRjda325xQcZVXiY-kyRNgE4MAMM5nzAoLQjTFD6T3-5nw9lfWkgRYeUbPG64kl07ea6Af2WMW0pWJVx5jb11MqVSYvmfyD/s200/ring+tutorial+008.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345364911430482386" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Finish by sewing the through the thread underneath the ring several times to secure it. Must I divulge how long ago that was? Okay, okay, 14 years.<br /><br />How much does that machine cost (approximately)?<br />Well, since it was given to me as a gift I actually had to do some research. It looks like it cost about $2500 new (in 1995). If you were to buy a used one today you would pay about $500.<br /><br />What types of things do you sew (i.e. quilting, clothing, handbags, home dec projects, etc.)?<br />I sew things for the home such as curtains and quilts. I also sew handbags and clothing and lots of baby stuff. I've never really done any heavy duty sewing.<br /><br />How much do you sew? How much wear and tear does the machine get?<br />Recently I've only gotten to sewing about once every 2 months. For the first few years of it's life I sewed on it about once a week.<br /><br />Do you like/love/hate your machine? Are you ambivalent? Passionate? Does she have a name? <br />I love love love my machine. It does everything I need/want it to and is not tempermental at all.<br /><br />What features does your machine have that work well for you?<br />In addition to its regular stitches, there are about 25 decorative stitches that I use quite often. It also has an automatic buttonhole setting that I absolutely couldn't do without! There is an overlock foot and setting that I use often for finishing raw edges. I also have a button that will make the needle stop in the down position. <br /><br />Is there anything that drives you nuts about your machine?<br />Honestly, no. If I had to choose something it might be that I would want the embroidery letters and numbers to look nicer. I would really only ever use them to label things, never to decorate with.<br />This doesn't necessarily drive me nuts, but because it's computerized I sometimes worry about what would happen if the computer crashed. Would I have to buy a whole new machine? How much would it cost to fix?<br /><br />Do you have a great story to share about your machine (i.e., Found it under the Christmas tree? Dropped it on the kitchen floor? Sewed your fingernail to your zipper?, Got it from your Great Grandma?, etc.!)? We want to hear it!<br />I received my machine as a gift for HS graduation (as I already mentioned).<br />I've only once sewn over my finger and that wasn't too bad.<br />My boys often like to press the buttons because there are blinking lights. I always have to make sure that my settings are correct if I leave and come back.<br /><br />Would you recommend the machine to others? Why?<br />Absolutely. It's so worth paying the extra money to get a good machine that's going to last. I've never had any major trouble with her even though I don't get tune ups as often as I should.<br /><br />What factors do you think are important to consider when looking for a new machine?<br />You should definitely look for a dependable name. It's nice to have several feet to switch out for all the different jobs. Like I mentioned before, I couldn't live without the automatic buttonhole setting. Especially since I sew a lot of clothes, it's priceless. <br /><br />Do you have a dream machine?<br />As far as a regular sewing machine, no. Mine does everything I need it to so I couldn't ask for anything more.<br />I would, however, like to have an embroidery machine some day.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10593019124880978286noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8983350611050105859.post-46009776092269407312009-06-06T07:51:00.000-07:002009-10-07T07:52:02.797-07:00new thingsI've decided that I need to start sewing again. I've always said that I don't have enough time. Well, I'm going to make time. I had so much fun entering all the contests over a <a href="http://www.sewmamasew.com/blog2/">Sew Mama Sew</a> (I even won something), that it gave me a new determination to start sewing.<br /><br />First up is a new outfit for Isaac. I embroidered it with my mom's machine that she is letting my borrow. It's hard to find good patterns for boys clothes. This one turned out so nice that I'll probably end up using it several times.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdwsrapJnKB70l07jkIODbfdyJFI0lQUWASWcYqhaMNx2SySrEhzRJjgvp1-sf9TlCuor1Y_si2f_Gt3Ht2bVpEtrYwSPKqH6RTVuUzneVBAWahyphenhyphenetUyVmVStV43YEv3_vb-49thMbnKEc/s1600-h/blogger+005.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdwsrapJnKB70l07jkIODbfdyJFI0lQUWASWcYqhaMNx2SySrEhzRJjgvp1-sf9TlCuor1Y_si2f_Gt3Ht2bVpEtrYwSPKqH6RTVuUzneVBAWahyphenhyphenetUyVmVStV43YEv3_vb-49thMbnKEc/s400/blogger+005.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5344274469841824082" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfyytT16ge6L7aLm1yEZ2uuyNlX5Z81nWTZ_Jl_fMAExUBbRKiWzJivQWToYEJlMpeDhBUYMcVYg69PLjt2F-r-LXSsnj-37Tco9iy0jgpJ38D28a4fgN0sSoo0tP_uomhX7-iX52Yyg_-/s1600-h/blogger+003.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfyytT16ge6L7aLm1yEZ2uuyNlX5Z81nWTZ_Jl_fMAExUBbRKiWzJivQWToYEJlMpeDhBUYMcVYg69PLjt2F-r-LXSsnj-37Tco9iy0jgpJ38D28a4fgN0sSoo0tP_uomhX7-iX52Yyg_-/s400/blogger+003.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5344274801228168514" border="0" /></a><br />Next up is a skirt I made last weekend just in time to wear to church on Sunday. (You'll notice my sewing mess in the background.)<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisssihPC6qUCxgn6APVhSDHEfYkluoMHUGiHWwRVgT7vqcqUP7WqhUOnmKni1RHA04_ov1pH29bBSvasoi4TnptLc9_kO0icjn3vYPLA2CePYZEnukRYSTABxmbD8lJExATngVj1Wvb-W7/s1600-h/blogger+002.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisssihPC6qUCxgn6APVhSDHEfYkluoMHUGiHWwRVgT7vqcqUP7WqhUOnmKni1RHA04_ov1pH29bBSvasoi4TnptLc9_kO0icjn3vYPLA2CePYZEnukRYSTABxmbD8lJExATngVj1Wvb-W7/s400/blogger+002.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5344276474759421314" border="0" /></a><br />And now for a few plugs. I do product testing and marketing for a company called <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Buzzagent</span>. Recently they sent me a new bug repellent made by <a href="http://www.offprotects.com/clip-on-mosquito-repellent/">OFF</a> that you clip onto your clothes. You don't have to spray it on your skin (<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">yay</span> for not having to put yucky stuff on your skin!!) It's a little fan that blows the bug repellent into the air. You're supposed to be protected for a 10 ft. radius around your body. We've tried it a few times and have found that it works great! I'm really excited to find something like this because I just hate spraying bug spray on the children. I have tons of coupons, so if you want to give it a try just let me know.<br /><br />Also, I've been shopping a whole new way lately, thanks to a website called <a href="http://www.southernsavers.com/"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">southernsavers</span>.com</a>.<br />I usually aim to save about 50% of my grocery bill and I've met that goal all but once. (That one time was only because I needed a few products that weren't on sale and I didn't have a coupon for.) She has a giveaway going on right now where you can win two booklets of coupons from Mambo Sprouts. <a href="http://www.southernsavers.com/2009/06/mambolicious-giveaway/">Head on over the and check it out</a>!Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10593019124880978286noreply@blogger.com0
